With the hotel a mere twenty minutes from the beautiful city of Siena, we took our tinny little hire car up into the mountains to soak up the colourful surroundings of this historic Tuscan town, Full of amazing individual shops and market stalls, Siena is the perfect place to visit if you want to get a real taste of the traditions Italy is known for. Grab a slice of freshly made pizza or flatbread from one of the bakeries that line the street; it will be the best you’ve ever tasted. Followed by a huge cone-full of gelato in any flavour you can imagine (coconut is THE best) and sit in the main square surrounded by beautiful buildings, multiple nationalities and tempting fashion boutiques.
PIAZZA DEL DUOMO
On the steep incline up to the city (there’s escalator’s, don’t worry!) you can’t miss the stunning cathedral in the centre of the city. A medieval church from 1263, it really is breathtaking inside. Even if history and religious monuments isn’t your bag, it’s definitely worth the 12 euros to go in and appreciate the amazing architecture.
