If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know how much I LOVE skincare. Talking about it, trying it and learning about it – it’s something that I find myself getting more passionate about as I get older and my own complexion changes. It’s also the thing I’m asked about the most and although I’m not an expert or have a degree in dermatology, I test and try more skincare products than most because of my job.
For this reason, my skincare routine changes a lot depending on the time of year (and month mostly!) and what I want to target. At the moment, I’m coming out the other side of a pretty aggressive batch of contact dermatitis from my flight back from Italy, combined with colder climates, my skin is in need of some TLC.
I tend to use this time of year to use a lot of chemical peels and retinol to repair my skin from any summer damage, whilst maintaining a hefty hydration routine to safeguard against central heating and cold winds outside. So, here is everything I’m using at the moment to keep my skin soft and glossy, just how I like it!
As well as my beloved Fave Halo’s (if you haven’t tried them yet, you must – they are some kind of wizardry), I rarely stray from a double-punch approach of Caudalie’s gentle and hydrating make-up removing oil and Skinceutical’s anti-aging and blemish cleanser. The first takes off every trace of the day without drying out my skin and the latter deeply cleanses every pore. This combination has improved the texture of my skin so much since I started using it last year and I always go back to them whenever I try anything new.
While completely normal to have texture on the surface of the skin, it doesn’t stop us from searching for that one product that promises us a silky smooth complexion at the drop of a hat. This is absolutely my weakness when it comes to skincare and I will try anything that will resurface my visage (as you can see from my top products to re-texture skin HERE). As someone that has sensitive skin, I find that these two perfectly balance each other out.
While it’s at the top end of what I’d pay for skincare, this Sunday Riley Glycolic Acid is one of those hero products I’ll never be without. It’s a full-on overnight detox for my skin targeting everything from dry and dullness to fine lines and any bumps on the surface of the complexion. On the days I’m not using this, I’ll reach for Oskia’s Super 16 Serum to boost collagen and target all signs of ageing and give it a little more love.
The key to dewy, gorgeous skin is always hydration and it’s really important to balance out all of those resurfacing products with a good quality moisturiser. Especially this time of year. During the day I’ve been using Sunday Riley’s Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream and my skin drinks in every last drop. With two weights of hyaluronic acid, alongside resurfacing papaya enzymes, it’s a tall glass of water during these colder months.
At night time my skin can feel tight so I put some goodness back in with this all-natural Aurelia Cell Renewal Night Oil. Working in tandem with the skin’s natural nightly repair mode, it’s packed with fatty acids and always leaves my skin clear and dewy come morning.
