If your Christmas was filled with wine, Quality Streets and more mince pies than you’d care to admit, bravo! The holidays aren’t supposed to be a time of calorie-counting and fad diets, it’s all about relaxing, being a bit naughty and enjoying yourself. However (surely you saw that coming!), Christmas is now over and it’s time to get back to feeling your best. “Ugh” I hear you cry! Finding the motivation to hit the gym and shift those festive pounds may not sound appealing compared to catching up on the last ever Downton Abbey but with these handy hints you’ll be smashing your PB in no time.
GET KITTED OUT
Got some new kicks from Santa? There’s nothing like a new piece of fitness gear to get you feeling excited about working out. Been a bad girl? Give yourself a little new year’s treat.
SET A NEW ROUTINE
If your holiday ritual has become a blur of tea, romcoms and a cosy blanket, break the habit immediately to make the transition easier. Start to factor in small bursts of exercise in your daily routine – it could be squats while you brush your teeth, lunges while you make the tea or a walk during your lunch break to get things moving.
DON’T GO IT ALONE
Having a gym buddy will make it a lot easier to turn a hard slog into something fun and social. Plus it’s harder to bail out of a fitness class when someone else is joining you.
MIX IT UP
There’s nothing worse than the thought of your own workout routine and feeling dread. Ease back into fitness by making it fun. Forget slogging it out on the treadmill, join a dance class, dabble in gymnastics or try your hand at ballet – it’ll work your body differently giving you more effective results.
Help the thought of working out progress into a reality simply by getting changed. Put your workout clothes on as soon as you think about exercising – even if it’s just to run errands or pad about the house as it sets the wheels in motion.
