I’m sorry, this is another beauty blog post. I’m not sure why or how this happened but I’m not that sorry because there’s so many exciting new things happening in the beauty world that I just want to tell you all about it as soon as I can! This is probably my favourite time of the year (apart from Christmas) – when the clocks go…forward (that’s right isn’t it?!) and there’s so much excitement and promise in the air. It’s also when everything becomes seriously pretty in fashion and beauty. Spring fragrances are the launches I get really excited about as brands have this amazing ability to literally bottle how we all feel around this time. With one sniff we’re instantly reminded of those light evenings, after-work strolls and weekend lunches al fresco after months of hibernating. Plus, what else brightens up your dressing table quite like pretty bottles?
Perfumes are so personal – they can set a mood, remind you of a memory and can be a part of your overall identity, just like clothes. So, it’s difficult to know what you’d like until you get your nose under it. I think most people know what they do and don’t like when it comes to scents – if you’re drawn to florals, woody undertones or something a little muskier so hopefully you’ll get a good idea if any of these new season spring fragrances are for you.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this perfume bottle is? A new incarnation of the brand’s Mon Paris perfume, Star Edition is a heady mix of patchouli and white musk with top notes of pear. Encapsulating the romanticism of Paris, everything from its sophisticated, rock n’ roll bottle design to the intense scent screams chic, French style. Can’t you just imagine this in Kate Moss’s bag? What I love about spring fragrances is how they change over the course of the day. What starts out as quite a strong scent at first becomes subtle as soon as it has contact with the skin and lasts all day. I can’t stop wearing this in the evening, especially on date night, as there’s something really sexy and mysterious about it.
I’ll admit I’m a little bias on this one because Chloé Love Story has been one of my signature fragrances for years. But what I didn’t like is that everyone else I knew smelt the same! It’s such an iconic perfume and a beautiful classic for so many people so if there’s a new version with a slight tweak that might differentiate me from the woman next to me on the tube, I’m all over it! With orange blossom, passion flower and sandlewood, it has the perfect balance of delicate floral notes and woody undertones for a light, subtle scent that takes me back to relaxing summer days. I’ve always loved it and think this is one I’ll always come back to.
Energy Burst 100% Natural Eau De Parfum, £49 Neom
You’ll probably have noticed from the sneaky inclusion of a Neom candle here and there in all of my blog post pictures that I’m a big fan of the brand! So, when I heard they launched a perfume, my first thought was “eh?” Neom are 100% natural, how does that work? I thought maybe it was like when we were younger and would mix rose petals in water and leave to ‘infuse’! But no, Neom have used a more sophisticated method of blending essential oils with rosemary, grapefruit and lemon to develop a zesty scent which energises and invigorates your mood. This is definitely a great everyday scent and for anyone who likes their spring fragrances fresh, sharp and full of life.
If sweet, feminine fragrances are your bag, this one’s for you. With top notes of lychee, rose petals and dewy leaves, middle notes of pink peony, pink orchid accord, muguet and freesia (and deep breath!), it’s definitely a floral dream. Although the bottle is pretty simple, it has the classic Michael Kors gold hardware giving it a luxury edge and if you read my blog you’ll know that I love simple designs!
With an attention-grabbing bottle typical of Marc Jacobs perfumes, it’s fair to say you’re not going to miss this bottle on your dressing table! Inspired by the vivid bursts of colour in Marc Jacobs Resort fashion collections, Daisy Dream is perfect for budding fashionista’s who like their spring fragrances fun and fruity. Blackcurrent, grapefruit and pineapple is blended with hints of cedarwood, jasmine and white freesia for a sweet but subtle scent. I was a little overpowered when I first doused myself in this (seriously, less is more!) but as the day went on I lost count with how many people asked me what my perfume was and how they had to buy it!
