If there is one piece of make-up that I thank god was invented, it’s concealer. Late nights, too much salt or genetics, dark circles and puffy eyes are one of beauty’s unanswered annoyances. Until recently, concealer is something that conjured up flashbacks of thick, cakey formulas I used at high school to bulk out my make-up collection and, horror of all horrors, put on my lips for that (ever-so-chic) white-out look.
But as I got older and concealer consistencies changed, I feel like I’ve finally found a few different techniques and products that work for me. While I took a 10-year hiatus from using concealer, I’ve come to realise the difference it can make to my make-up look. Not only does it cover dark circles, it reflects the light aways from puffiness and brightens up the entire under eye area give a more polished and flawless finish.
Finding the right product is not as easy as it sounds. It has to hydrate, not aggravate, cover but not cake, brighten but not wash out and above all, not gather in those fine lines around our eyes. But after a lot of trial and error, these are my everyday concealer go-to’s that never disappoint….
CONCEALER DO’S AND DON’TS
DO Always put concealer on OVER your foundation and not under
DON’T Over-do it. You can spot too much from a mile off and you’ll be left with white circles around your eyes. Use sparingly.
DO Get two shades – one that matches your skin perfectly for blemishes and one a shade lighter for under the eyes
DON’T go too close to the eyes, blend upwards so it doesn’t make your eyes appear smaller than they are
DO Blend with a Beauty Blender or similar, not your finger
