Spring beauty is like a breath of fresh air. Think dewy skin, pastel hues, pops of pink and barely there base as we embrace the better (more Instagrammable) light and healthier complexions. Every year there’s a new wave of spring beauty releases but every now and again there are ones that completely capture the season perfectly.
I don’t often blog about entire brand launches but there was something about Yves Saint Laurent’s new collection that made me re-think that ‘policy’. As one of my all-time favourite luxury beauty brands (their Touche Eclat has been a make-up bag staple for years), I always have one kohled eye on their new products knowing full well that it’s a safe assumption that it’ll be better than the last. This year is no different and I’ve been having lots of fun trying out all of the new pieces that promise to give us that flawless spring look.
I’m not usually one for judging a product by its packaging (I’m not!) but, every time I catch a glimpse of YSL’s glossy gold casing on my dressing table, I can’t help but feel a little more grown up! There’s something undeniably chic and elegant about that interlinked logo atop a shiny compact that reminds me of retro film stars and a time where beauty products were deemed a luxury in themselves. With their new products dropping in time for the new season, I’ve collated 5 of my favourite YSL products that I know you will love as much as I do.
Couture Palette Collector Pop Illusion Palette
I know what you’re thinking and I thought it too. It may look scary bright and something you might not usually touch with a eyeshadow brush but bear with me. I’m usually not one for bright make-up, in fact, if it’s on the rosey side of nude I run a mile, but there was something about this clashing palette that made me want to rush home, put on some Cyndi Lauper and go to town with those baby blues!
As eye-popping shadow continues to dominate the runways, it may not be a trend for the faint hearted but it was for the daring. With lightly sunkissed skin and a barely-there base, the sparkly golds and pretty pinks will be just the thing to lift winterised faces, believe me!
Souffle D’Eclat
Powdery pink and lighter than air, the Souffle D’Eclat has been a total stand-out product in my spring beauty regime. Although the powder pouffe might be something out of old Hollywood, the formula is far from dated. Giving skin a pore-perfecting veil, it enhances your skins sheen rather than hides it. Personally, I work damn hard to get that dewy glint on my cheeks and above my eyebrows, the last thing I want to do is cover it up! But when the radiance turns to shine, a little skin blur is perfect without weighing it down.
As much as I love the concept, I don’t actually use the pouffe provided as it’s a little messy – I prefer to use an over-sized powder brush to lightly dust it over my T-zone for the most beautiful finish. If you’re looking for something a with a little more coverage than a translucent powder but lighter than a winter powder, this is perfect!
Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow
The title alone is everything I want for my spring beauty look! Giving skin moisture for 72 hours is a bold claim but after a looonngg day in London last week, I can contest that not only did my make-up not budge a millimetre, my skin looked plump and hydrated come 11pm. On a daily basis I find I’m constantly met with that old-age problem – a rich, skin-loving moisturiser and the oil slick that my face becomes for my base. I’ve found that other primers can make my skin look slightly dull and life-less but this kept the moisture locked in without the shiny, greasy texture. Win-win!
Touche Eclat Glow Shot
If you haven’t heard of strobing (where have you been?!), chances are you’ll be all over it this season. The concept is similar to contouring, except you use highlighter to sculpt your face, leaving it with a beautiful, glowy radiance. Touche Eclat Glow Shot is the strobing product for dummies (no offence!). If you’re no Patricia Bright with a Beauty Blender, this takes all the hard work out of your daily spring beauty make-up routine.
Applying the creamy formula to your cheekbones, cupids bow, beneath your eyebrow arch and the bridge of the nose, it will give you that flawless skin look we’re always double tapping on Insta.
