This week’s been a little crazy getting back into the swing of things after America. I’m editing thousands of photos from our trip. But in the meantime, I’ve had so many press releases of new, exciting spring beauty products launching over the next few weeks that I had to tell you all about some that I’m loving right now. Travelling constantly for the last 3 weeks has taken its toll on my skin and hair so I jumped at the chance of updating my spring beauty products and giving my complexion and strands a little love. I admit, I was lucky enough to be sent a few of the upcoming releases to try. But, I’ve only included the ones that I’ve loved and what I found really worked. Unfortunately some of them aren’t out until May or June so I don’t have links to buy them but I’ll update the post when I do.
If you have any new (or old) products you’re loving right now, please do let me know in the comments box below!
City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser, Murad
Murad are seriously stepping up their skincare recently. I’m loving their retinol serum at the moment and now they’ve added this day moisturiser to their collection. Thanks to the inclusion of super-charged antioxidants and Marrubium Plant Stem Cells, it neutralises pollutants and strengthens the skin’s natural barrier. It’s super lightweight on application so I don’t feel greasy when I put it on before bed. Pollution is something I’m worrying about more as I’m getting older and see the effect it has on my skin. I’ve been using this for a week now and definitely notice that my skin appears brighter in the mornings.
Energising Hand Lotion, £16, Anti-Fatigue Exfoliating Body Scrub, £26 REN Skincare
Working on the magazine, I learnt about the importance of magnesium pretty quickly. And the more I started lifting weights in the gym I found that rubbing liquid magnesium onto my sore limbs got rid of that awful can’t-climb-stairs feeling the nest day. So when REN told me they were launching a range of skincare as part of their spring beauty collection, including magnesium I was all over it. Athough I imagined sea kelp would smell like something washed up on the shore, it’s actually a lot softer, sweeter and refreshing. The body scrub melted into my skin and left it soft and supple with a slight oily residue to keep it hydrated.
Body Fit Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert, £39 Clarins
My spring beauty kit always includes the latest cellulite formula. Along with anti-aging products, cellulite busting creams always make me skeptical. Sure, there’s ones that might hydrate a little more but I’m yet to find a topical product that actually gets rid of orange peel. Clarins is a beauty brand I trust – I have a lot of their products and never have any complaints. Admittedly, I’m lucky enough that I don’t have much cellulite but I’m always looking for ways to tone up the skin on the backs of my legs and bum, especially when the warmer weather rolls around. I’ve started body brushing every night after showering and combined with applying this cream, I’ve noticed a huge difference. I love the cooling effect it has on my skin and it sinks in instantly so I can jump into bed without feeling sticky. It may not shed weight from key areas but it definitely gives the skin a more defined, toned look.
Kinlongevity Vital Power Eye Gel Cream, £23 Bare Minerals
I’m so happy that Bare Minerals now offer skincare! I run out of their make-up faster than any other brand I use and their skincare is no different. I’ve been looking for a new eye cream for a couple of months and this couldn’t have come at a better time. Using the same long-life herb as their serum, the Vital Power Eye Cream strengthens the skin around the eyes so wrinkles are reduced. This is exactly what I need right now – I sat in the hairdressers chair yesterday and couldn’t believe how tired and puffy my eyes looked after a week of jet lag. I haven’t seen a huge improvement yet because I think eye creams take at least 6 weeks to take effect but I can already notice how much more hydrated they feel.
Perfume Oil, £28 each, Elemis
Since I got back from America, I made a decision to start taking better care of myself. I know, we all say we’re going to make time for ourselves. But, after two weeks of great sleep, no stress and the odd massage, I couldn’t believe how much better my skin looked and my body and mind felt. So, when Elemis’s new Life Elixirs press release landed on my desk, they couldn’t have come at a better time. For women on the go (so, all of us then!), it’s a bit of wellness that you can take with you. I’ve started putting these on my pulse points before bed (Calm) and in the morning (Clarity). I’m loving the little ritual of doing something for my mind as well as my body in my daily beauty regime. The scent is subtle and not overly sweet is exactly what I wanted. The best way to describe it is carrying the gorgeous scent of a spa around with you all day long.
Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Nudist £15,
Full-On Lip Cream Lip Gloss in Bellini, £15 Buxom
New beauty brand alert! OK, it’s not that new as it launched in the US in 2007 but Buxom has now come to the UK and I’m so excited. Known for their plumped up pouts and OTT lashes, their colour selection is amazing. I struggled to settle on what to get but you guys know I rarely stray from my trusty nude lip! You can tell a lot about a brand from the nude shades they offer and I’ve been so impressed by these three. Their lipsticks are rich and creamy making them perfect for spring beauty and if you want a nourishing formula that still gives a matte finish. I layer mine with the plumping lipgloss for added sheen and to give my lips some serious definition. I don’t know whether it’s my imagination or the tingling sensation but I think my lips definitely looked poutier than usual! I’m so excited to see what else Buxom comes up with.
Texture Detox Shampoo, £4.30 Toni & Guy
I love Toni & guy products. I’m just going to put that out there because I’ve never been hugely impressed by their salons, but their products deliver every time. Their new summer collection includes a leave-in conditioner, dry shampoo and this clarifying shampoo. I’m yet to try out the others but, I got home from LA and was in desperate need of some hair TLC. After sea water, sun and lots of curling and straightening, my hair was in a pretty sorry state. After chopping 4 inches off, it felt lighter, healthier and thicker, I stripped back all of the styling products weighing it down with Toni & Guy’s shampoo and it bought back some serious shine. These days it doesn’t take much for my hair to go as flat as a pancake but this left it bouncy and full of life again.
Firm and Replenish Body Serum, Aurelia
As one of my favourite natural beauty brands, I’ve been desperate for a new product launch from Aurelia. Mainly because you guys must be fed up of me slipping them into every spring beauty post I do! We all know about serums for our face but Aurelia have developed a formula for our bodies too. I’d never heard of this before, but they work the same way as facial serums. Apply it to your entire body before your moisturiser and it locks in moisture, leaving your skin velvety soft. Admittedly, I thought it sounded a bit gimmicky at first, but it was the biggest treat for my skin. It sunk in instantly and left even my crêpey knees smooth and hydrated! I always feel that I neglect the skin on my body compared to the products I put on my face. So I’m definitely going to keep this extra step in my routine when I get out of the shower.
Aromessence Solaire Tan Activator Serum, £47 Decleor
I love spring beauty. When new self tan formulas are being developed and extra hydrating skincare is launched. That’s two sectors that gets my skin very excited! I’m naturally fair so when it comes to being in the sun, I’ve learnt to adopt the low and slow approach. After years of frying my skin and having the crows feet to show for it, I’m all about prepping beforehand. This boosts my menalin production (the pigment that protects skin from sunburn and gives you a bronzed look). Decleor’s Tan Activator Serum includes carrot and argan oil to reduce dehydration. It also has camomile and geranium essential oils to help build the skins natural defences. This is a bit trickier to test straight away but I’ve got another trip planned at the end of June so I’ll be trying the serum out to see how it measures up and let you know!
