The fashion industry is in mourning today as it was the revealed that the 82-year-old designer Oscar de la Renta had passed away following a long battle with cancer.
The Dominican Republic-born legend has become well-known with his fascination with femininity and creating a lady-like form within his designs. Popular with the first ladies of the White House, de la Renta has seen Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and most recently, Michelle Obama wear his creations to various state events over the years. Although popular within high society and ladies who lunch, de la Renta has also maintained a strong stance within popular culture with celebrity fans including Cameron Diaz, Lea Michelle and most notably, Sarah Jessica Parker both on and off-screen. And it was only a few months ago that de la Renta designed an off-the-shoulder lace wedding gown for Amal Alamuddin for her wedding to George Clooney in Venice.
One of the original greats, he will be greatly missed.
