HOW I KEEP MY LONG HAIR HEALTHY

Swishing thick, glossy hair around your shoulders goes hand-in-hand with glowing skin, white teeth and bright eyes – the holy grails of beauty. I’ve always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with my hair. It was thick, curly and dry growing up, so, like most girls I got my hands on some ghd’s and straightened the life out of it until it was as thin as a piece of paper! How I wish I could go back and wrench those straighteners out of my hands! Then there’s the bleaching, highlights, stripping it back to brunette and back to ombre again. Looking back, I’ve treated my poor hair like crap and as a result that thick, wavy hair became flat and lacklustre. The older I’m becoming the more I’m pining after that virgin hair free of split ends and frazzled roots. So, over the last year or so I’ve been on a mission to get my long hair healthy by trying to un-do some of the damage I done and embrace whatever form it naturally takes. The simplest thing to do is cut it all off and start again but I can’t quite let go of the length so I’ve been trying everything I can to build it up from the inside and out with the help of these wonder products! So far, so good – I’ve had to be really strict and create a whole new haircare regime but with a little patience I can already see the results.

Viviscal Maximum Strength Supplements, £49.95 for one month

I admit, I was so skeptical about these when I first heard about them. Pills that make your hair grow? That doesn’t sound very healthy at all. But when I looked into them and all the reviews magazines had done on them, I realised they were actually full of everything your hair needs. Packed with biotin, zinc, vitamin C, iron and niacin, Viviscal promise to nourish your hair from within. Sounds like a sales pitch, right? I’ve been taking these morning and night for just over 8 weeks and I can’t believe the difference they’ve made. For starters, my hair has grown crazy long but it’s grown back thicker and shinier than before. People keep asking if I’ve had it coloured or if I’m using a different shampoo but it’s purely from taking these that it’s more manageable and twice as thick already.

Sachajuan Overnight Hair Repair, £35

I’m such a sucker for anything that works overnight – minimum effort and maximum output! I’m a brand’s dream because I’ll buy anything that says I can wake up with the hair of my dreams. I love Sachajuan products to keep my long hair healthy so I knew this was going to deliver and I wasn’t wrong. It has the highest concentration of silk technology and the inclusion of algae to boost your hair’s elasticity. I use this once a week, cover my entire head from root to tip and rinse it out in the morning. I won’t lie, it’s not a product to use if you want loads of volume in your hair because it does leave it like silk but it feels stronger, my hair is breaking as much when I brush it and it feels like a real pampering treat on a Sunday night.

Kerastase Essence D’Eclat, out in April

Ok, I promise this will be the last time I harp on about Kerastase’s new botanical range! With coconut, organ and jojoba oil, it’s lightweight enough to use everyday and doesn’t weigh your hair down. Go easy on the spritzing though, you only need one pump on the front and back sections. I like to leave my hair to dry naturally when I use it to let it really soak in without heat and it feels so nourishing on the ends.

Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, £24.45

I’m a massive fan of Moroccanoil products, I could douse my hair in them everyday if I could get away with the slicked-back look. The oil is obviously the star of the collection but this hydrating cream makes my hair smooth and sleek without the need for straighteners. Instead of just flattening flyaways, it actively hydrates the hair from deep within and doesn’t make your hair greasy. Plus it smells like a summer holiday on the beach!

Argan +5 Argan Oil Miracle Shine Spray, £4.99 Waitrose

I found this little gem completely by accident when I was rushing to an event and my hair needed a bit of gloss. This never normally happens and it was a total impulse purchase that I was worried was going to completely ruin my look for the night. I popped into Waitrose and couldn’t believe how good it was! Usually shine sprays make my hair greasy or flat but this is so lightweight and leaves my long hair healthy, soft, voluminous and the shiniest I’ve ever seen it.long hair healthy
