Last week my Insta feed was awash with Coachella pics. I was in LA, having the BEST time hiking the Hollywood hills, dying in SoulCycle classes and running along Venice beach. So, the fact that I didn’t go to Coachella this year didn’t actually matter. I loved seeing the pictures of my favourite bloggers living it up with various brands at pool parties and dancing a long in Palm Springs. I felt proud of them and hopeful that maybe one day I’ll be there with them. But, it didn’t stop me from getting in the festival spirit nonetheless. I mean, why the hell not? As Spring is in full swing, the Coachella marks the start of festival season and it’s time to start booking those tickets and snapping up those key festival fashion pieces.

For me, I think that festival fashion shouldn’t be a million miles away from your everyday style. Sure, you may need to swap your stilettos for wellies, but why go all-out with fringing, hair garlands and denim hotpants if that’s not normally what you’d wear? Personally, I like to start with a great pair of boots that are a fail-safe option for every outfit in my bag. These Dune Pontoon Boots are my latest purchase for spring and are perfect for festival season. With a stacked heel, they’re comfy enough to wear all day, dance all night and give you enough height to feel a bit more put together. I love the double zip detail for a bit of interest and I can just tell they’re going to get better with age. I know I’m going to wear them to death! So, if you’re starting to think about your festival fashion options, here are a few things I think about when hitting the shops.

STAY TRUE TO YOU
As I mentioned above, try not to fall into the fashion festival cliches. It’s a total waste to buy a festival wardrobe and only bring it out once a year. Get the most out of your buys by thinking “where else will I wear this?”.

THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Obviously the weather factors into most of my fashion purchases but I also try and think about what I’ll be doing when wearing these items. Festival fashion has to start with functionality. If you want to dance til the morning sun, is that jersey top going to be cool enough 3 hours in?

TAKE A RISK
That all being said, festivals is a great opportunity to be a little more daring than you normally would. If you fancy teaming a soft bra underneath a bomber jacket, go for it! There are no real rules when it comes to festival fashion – it’s fun and free so embrace it!

What’s on your festival fashion shopping list?
