This is a paid advertisement with Biologi Serums but all thoughts are my own.
For a long time, I was on the fence about face serums. Thin, watery and quickly absorbable, they sat on my face like an invisible shield as I desperately craved a difference in my skin. Unlike the instantaneous effects of oil, retinol or AHA’s where I’d stroke my face in the morning and feel the overnight magic they had worked, face serums didn’t bring as much to my skincare regime. I was often left disappointed at the lack of results yet carried on using them because it felt like I should and so many people had raved about them as an integral part of your daily regime.
But, it wasn’t until I stopped using face serums that I realised their importance. The quiet and subtle effect they were having on my skin’s texture, the pigmentation I swore hadn’t budged and the tone in which my skin sat. Maybe there was something to them after all. A thought that was only confirmed when I tried Biologi serums. Based in Australia and using only 100% pure plant extracts as ingredients (my favourite kind!), their chic and minimal packaging had me sold immediately and the fact they were Australian made and owned cemented my new love for them (the country of cool products, right?!).
Supercharged with active ingredients, these serums don’t just sit aimlessly on the skin and let your moisturiser do all of the hard work, they bring their own A game. After trialling them for 3 months, this is what I found out…
MORNING AND EVENING SERUMS IS A THING
Just as we have day and night creams, we also need different serums at night. I thought this was a marketing tactic at first but on reflection (and after a lot of research) it actually makes perfect sense. A day serum’s job is to protect our skin from pollutants and the environmental aggressors that cause skin damage and pigmentation. It’s a time when our skin is most exposed to the elements, not to mention our daily moods (hello stress!) and needs all the help it can get.
Whereas a night serum is where all the magic happens. Those few hours of shut eye is when our body and skin repairs, regenerates and does all its best work. Adding in a potent serum before your moisturiser or oil will boost that process by evening out skintone and soothing any inflammation. After 4 weeks of using both serums from Biologi at different times of the day, my skin felt stronger and more resilient. As you guys know, I suffer from rosacea and as I get so hot at nighttime, my skin can be aggravated come morning but this was significantly reduced after just a month.
AS IS EYE SERUM
When I hit 28, the impending big 3-0 looming on the horizon, I realised my go-to excuse of “I’m in my twenties, I don’t need eye cream” really wasn’t washing anymore. Crows feet and fine lines had begun to show and the area around my eyes was becoming darker and less toned.
So, for the last four years, I’ve been religiously applying eye cream morning and evening with little results. Sure, the skin was a little tauter and the lines a little softer, but still not giving me that bright eye, bushy tailed effect. After a lot of research I realised eye serums were a little known skincare step that garnered more impressive results and since trying Biologi’s Eye Serum it sealed the deal.
The difference? While eye creams work on the surface of the skin, keeping the skin hydrated eye serums contain more active ingredients that are fully absorbed below the epidermis as the molecule size is a lot smaller therefore absorbs quicker.
DON’T FORGET YOUR BODY SKIN
As we come into the colder months, our skin needs a little dose of TLC. No longer can we rely on that dewy summer glow as central heating, dryer and colder air as well as knitwear can all zap the moisture from our skin. I always look for bodycare that’s super low maintenance for one reason – I’m too cold when I get out of the shower to spend loads of time on it!
Body serum has been on my radar for a while as it climbed up the ranks of the new beauty buzzwords. Although I bemoaned it was another thing I had to make time for as I imagined sliding into my clothes, a big greasy mess, it’s actually the opposite as, unlike a face serum, it doesn’t need a moisturiser chaser and it sinks in quicker. Hurrah! Packed with vitamin C and tryptophan, Biologi’s Bf Serum helps to strengthen the skin and lock in moisture meaning I don’t need to shiver away until it soaks in.
Are you using a face or body serum? What do you think of them? Let me know…
