4 THINGS TO DO IN PADSTOW, CORNWALL

padstow

OK, I might be biased but I trust believe┬áthat Cornwall is one of the most idyllic places in the UK. I know there are plenty of other suburbs that could give it a run for its money – the Cotswolds, Sussex, Kent, even my home county of Suffolk but there’s something about Cornwall that’s a little bit enchanting, especially Padstow. Pasties, clotted cream, the swell of the sea and rolling hills – it has everything. So when I had the opportunity to head down to Watergate Bay for a few days, I couldn’t jump in the car quicker (where I stayed for 6 hours!)

Although there are so many beautiful places to visit (Bude, St Ives and Port Isaac to mention a few), I couldn’t wait to get back to my favourite Cornish town – Padstow. Or Pad-Stein as it’s fondly called thanks to celebrity chef Rick Stein’s epic takeover! Here are some of my must-visit places if you find yourself in the area and yes, they involve eating a lot!…

EAT ICE CREAM AT ROSKILLY

From clotted cream to salted caramel, this little ice cream parlour on the high street offers every traditional and exotic (black forest gateau flavour is a must) flavour you can think of.

HAVE FISH AND CHIPS AT RICK STEIN

Yep, the King of seafood not only has a deli, cafe, hotel and restaurant in Padstow alone, he also has a very reasonable fish and chip shop. Be prepared to queue but it’s worth the wait.

SHOP AT THE SUMMERHOUSE

Filled with chic knick-knacks and over-priced armchairs – it’s our kind of place! Rustic dining room tables and rope lamps are the order of the day here while you dream of owning an actual summerhouse in Padstow one day!

INDULGE AT ROLY’S FUDGE HOUSE

Yes, there is a food theme emerging here because eating is the best thing to do in Padstow, and it’s not exactly healthy! This charming little fudge shop is the real deal. Sourcing their ingredients from local farmers, you can watch the sugary treats be made in front of you while you choose between vanilla, chocolate, lemon meringue or sea salt flavours.
