There’s something about sparkling whiter teeth that makes me feel a bit more put together. Not only do they make us look younger and cleaner they also brighten up our entire face. Although a lot of people feel embarrassed, discoloured teeth is a completely natural progression as we get older. Whether it’s coffee, red wine or hot curries, there are plenty of surprising reasons why our teeth don’t stay pristine. But, you can avoid the hefty dentist bill with these easy tips for whiter teeth…
EAT YOUR WAY WHITE
Stocking up on apples, celery, raw carrots, popcorn (yes, really), cauliflower and broccoli are all great for whiter teeth . Staying away from the obvious stain culprits such as red wine, coffee, curry, smoking and cola will make a massive difference to your teeth and swapping juice for lemon water is the best-kept secret.
Chewing gum may not be ideal for our waistlines but it does produce saliva which which neutralises acid and strengthens the enamel on our knashers.
INVEST IN GOOD TOOLS
Make sure you change your toothbrush every two to three months to ensure it doesn’t get too soft. This lessens its effect when getting rid of stubborn stains and can lead to discoloration.
Contrary to what our parents told us as children, spitting out your toothpaste rather than rinsing will ensure that the fluoride continues to protect and clean the teeth long after brushing.
SWILL COCONUT OIL
Is there anything this product can’t do?! Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for five to 20 minutes, or add a few drops to your toothbrush and brush it on for whiter teeth.
