3 MINERAL MASKS FOR GLOWING SKIN

I’ve always been very honest with you and I don’t mind telling you that my skin…needs help. It’s awful. The combination of Christmas stress, the cold weather and the fact that I’ve had TWO colds in what feels like a week has left it in a state. I’ve always been really lucky with my skin. Growing up, I skipped adolescent breakouts and, aside from the odd bout of dryness it’s served me well. Until now. The odd blemish I can deal with but it’s dry one minute, oily the next and generally looks bleugh. So, it was time for a serious beauty sesh. It’s rare these days that I get time to do an indulgent evening but desperate times. When my skin is having a moment I like to take things back to basics, like, to-the-earth basics! No, I haven’t lost my mind, the earth is packed full of vitamins and minerals so I’m always drawn to products that utilise our natural resources rather than synthetic ingredients. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good retinol cream as much as the next girl but when your skin flares up at a moments notice, there’s nothing more nourishing than mineral face masks to calm it down. I’ve tried a lot of face masks in my job (57 in one month on one occasion) and these are my top 3…

DERMALOGICA’S CHARCOAL RESCUE MASQUE

‘Rescue Masque’? Yes! I used to use Dermalogica products a lot when I was a teenager but found some of them a little too alcohol-y for my skin. But, as one of the first brands to bring out a charcoal product, I was all over it. I know, charcoal is a bit weird but, if your face is sport central then this is perfect as it draws toxins out from the skin. I use this a lot if I notice a blackhead because it really helps to get rid. It’s texture is grainier than most mineral masks so you get an exfoliating element to it and it dries within a few seconds so it takes a speedy hand.

BARE MINERALS DIRTY DETOX MASK

Ah my love for this brand continues and I feel like I ramble on about them all the time so I’ll keep it brief! Yes, I look like the Hulk, I am aware, but it’s a small price to pay for glowing skin! Using a cocktail of clay, papaya enzyme and a little charcoal this is a super thick, rich formula which my skin just drinks up. What I love about mineral masks is that they’re cold. All. The Time. And this is no different, so when my skin is irritated, it’s instantly cooled and soothed. I’ve actually left this mask on for twice the recommended time because it felt so nice on and left my skin fresh and really, really clean-feeling.

GAZELLI’S REVITALISING MINERAL MASK

Not many people have heard of this brand and it’s massively under-estimated because their products are so powerful. This mask is full of essential antioxidants, omegas and skin-brightening vitamins so if your complexion is feeling generally a bit dull and lifeless, this is brilliant to give it a beautiful glow. It’s a lot thinner than the previous two but don’t be fooled, you only need a thin layer for it to get to work. It also doesn’t give you that tight feeling that masks do so you get a real sense that it’s being kind to your skin.
